International Choir Tour Story Maps
Interactive story maps recapturing epic choir concert tours through Europe upon which I embarked with the Great River Chorale, a Minnesota-based community choir.

OpenPianoMap Story Map Series
This is a bicycling/walking story map tour of locations throughout Minneapolis/St. Paul and beyond with public pianos. These interactive maps take you on a journey and allow you to play clips of friends and myself playing piano at each location. The aim is for encouraging and inviting music to be reachable and sharable anywhere as well as to rejuvenate and re-popularize a historically enjoyable social atmosphere regardless of place or person.... hence the "Open" in "OpenPianoMap" -- a play on words of the open-source map platform OpenStreetMap.

Minnesota North Shore Road Map
Map I created as part of a cartography class at University of Minnesota depicting the North Shore and northeastern part of the state with a summertime orange-juice and sunshine feel. This was created during the coldest months of the year looking forward to warm thoughts.

U of M PTS Internship Experience
A visual summary of my experiences while working for University of Minnesota Parking Transportation Services. Projects involved asset management of campus data, such as campus traffic, parking, buildings, sidewalks, and related, and helping enable smooth data transition to an Enterprise ArcGIS Online system.

Northfield Internship Experience
City government work outside the Twin Cities. This section showcases my field work and project samples as a budding GIS professional applying learned skills in GPS technologies and ArcGIS to real-world urban infrastructure planning and development operations.

Northfield Sidewalk Poetry: Library Tour
An interactive story map tour of sidewalk poetry throughout one of Minnesota's historic river towns. This story map library tour application shows where various lines of poetry are stamped within the area sidewalks and neighborhoods of Northfield, MN. The tour is also accompanied with pictures and audio clips for map users to view/play back each poem if they desire. Essentially the app is used in a guided touring fashion, noting each stop in order on the map. The app itself was produced as part of a project for the Northfield Arts and Culture Commission, but intended for its residents and the public for artistic appreciation and hope to share aspects of the town's culture/values to people regardless of their location. People can explore these poems and let their words resonate with them not only at each stop, but in the comfort of their whereabouts.
The original story map, pictured in the screenshot and described here, was developed in 2015, won the U-Spatial Mapping Prize Award in the category of Best Use of Maps, and is part of the University Digital Conservancy. The interactive project was migrated to the City of Northfield and then rebuilt when the original platform was retired. As of May 2025, the new version is available at https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/87d365df771c48d3aab52ec4991b2209/. It has since added many more poems to its database.

Northfield Sidewalk Poetry: Brochure Map
This brochure shows where various lines of poetry are stamped or due to be stamped within the area sidewalks and neighborhoods of Northfield, MN. I built the accompanying map in ArcGIS for Desktop, current to 2015. Color-coded and numbered by neighborhood/segment where they are stamped, this accompanies the online web map application which I also originally built and is currently maintained by the City. For more information, see the Library Tour.

RAGBRAI Historic Routes Thematic Map
Map of the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa historic bike routes from 1973-2014 with an 'electrical' feel, much like static electricity exhibits in museums. Being the world's largest bike ride event, RAGBRAI is a non-competitive bicycle tour across Iowa from the western to eastern border. I built this map for fun after a class project in grad school in which a similar map was built animation-style.

RAGBRAI Map Hub Source Site
Interactive and animated web mapping site depicting historic and current routes of the largest annual bike marathon in the world. Maps and the site itself were all built as part of a team using GIS web applications and Java API's.

STLF PIF Service Tour Story Maps
These interactive map journals recapture my experiences on annual cross country bus tours, wherein students from University of Minnesota and other local colleges embarked for Spring Break, part of the Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF) organization. Instead of relaxing by the beach or going to wild parties, we volunteered for local organizations in several cities. We engaged in community service projects, developed leadership and team-building skills, created lasting relationships with one another, and made positive impacts on communities where we served. In other words, these were the ULTIMATE road trips! All built in ArcGIS Online

White Bear Lake: Integrated Bathymetry
Raster analysis map I assembled as part of a team with the goal of creating an updated seamless Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of a Minnesota lake's floor (White Bear Lake), to be used as a process model in determining erosion and environmental impacts to Minnesota's lakes.
In this process, we interpolated and performed a comprehensive analysis of the lake's
bathymetry in northeast St. Paul, MN using satellite imagery, LIDAR, contour line data (courtesy of
MN Department of Natural Resources), and GPS-recorded point data, all spanning from years 2000-2014. Much of the data was taken from a
variety of sources, corrected and processed using ArcGIS, Terrasync, Pathfinder Office, and mathematical analysis.

White Bear Lake: Digital Elevation Model and Canopy
Map of a lake northeast of the Twin Cities metro area in Minnesota measuring elevation and tree canopy density via LIDAR. Process also involved performing spatial algebra, slope analysis, and simulating a digital elevation model, all using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst tools.

The Great Northwestern States: Elevation and Roads
Shaded relief map I built of the 3 northwestern-most states in the contiguous US with road network, cities by population, and elevation.

Data visualizations and analysis undertaken while volunteering for University of Minnesota bicycle/alternative-transportation facilities.

Cannon River Flooding Incident Poster
Visualization of extreme flooding incidents in Northfield, MN. This poster compares extents of record-breaking flood incidents from 2001-2014 and iterates long-term expectations for flooding due to runoff from the Cannon River.

Otter Tail County Road Map

U of M Paratransit Station Placement
Interactive and static maps of handicap-friendly transit stations to be added to campus transportation network, developed as part of a team. Developed as practice for a mock real-world scenario using clients and an "agile" project format. Points were geolocated via Trimble and Garmin GPS, then configured using ArcGIS software.

U of M Campus Road Hazards Web Map
Interactive web map of street potholes and sunken manholes I geolocated throughout campus over spring 2014, color-rated by severity.

New Madrid Seismic Zone Project
Independent project monitoring earthquake activity from years 2013-4 within four Midwestern US seismic zones and designating prospective evacuation routes for when disaster strikes. This project started as a poster built from a dual-enrollment GIS course with James Madison University and later adapted to ArcGIS Online for a project management course at University of Minnesota, addressing growing concern of a massive mega-earthquake overdue to hit this region and the area being ill-equipped to withstand such an event. Earthquake tremor data was recorded at select times of the concurrent year and overlaid into Peak Horizontal Acceleration zone buffers highlighting most likely areas for such a quake to hit.

Table Tennis Locator Web Map
Map identifying table tennis locations throughout University of Minnesota campus

St. Anthony Trail and Park Maps
Using GPS, and part of a course in Environmental Sciences Policy and Management, I mapped an area near University of Minnesota - St. Paul campus (about 15.5 acres/6.2 hectares). It included an abandoned street car grade that is used as a nature trail, small nature preserve, and wooded area. This demonstrated an opportunity to apply GPS mapping skills under a forest canopy. Project was conducted with permission from Lauderdale City Office, Luther Seminary, and University Grove Association.

Oklahoma Seismic Activity Map
I built this static map as an additive to my New Madrid Seismic Zone project after learning of several tremors occurring in Oklahoma. Map features tremors, buffer danger zones (courtesy of USGS), and suggested evacuation routes, should a mega-earthquake occur in this area.
